FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood baseball had five players earn All-Big South honors as the league office announced its postseason awards today.
Â
Jaxon Lloyd and
JR Fordham both garnered First-Team All-Conference honors, and
Ben Pulliam and
Brady Hoover earned spots on the All-Freshman Team.
Tré Keels was named to the Big South All-Academic Team.
Â
Lloyd and Fordham became the first teammates to earn First-Team All-Big South honors in team history.
Â
Lloyd was Longwood's Friday night ace and one of the top starters in the Big South throughout the season. He ranked among the league leaders in wins, strikeouts, innings while serving as a rock to anchor the Lancers in every Friday start. He is the first Lancer pitcher to earn first-team honors since Travis Burnette did so in 2016.
Â
His 3.39 ERA leads the Big South, and he held opponents to a .242 batting average (second in the league). The lefthander tallied 72 strikeouts in 77 innings while going 6-3 on the mound. In 11 of his 12 starts, he went at least 6.0 innings, and he gave up two runs or less six times in his 12 starts. His 31 runs allowed were second-fewest in the league as well.
Â
Fordham, meanwhile, served as the team's closer and was one of the best and most reliable in the nation and shutting the game down on the back end. He holds a 2.39 ERA in 37.2 innings while picking up eight saves and two wins in 27 appearances. His eight saves ranked second in the Big South.
Â
The senior righty mowed down batters all season, racking up 56 strikeouts to average a whopping 13.4 strikeouts per nine innings. He held teams to a .169 batting average in the process.
Â
Pulliam and Hoover mark the first time Longwood has had two All-Freshman Team selections in the same season.
Â
Pulliam was one of the top hitters on the season for Longwood, batting .298 while starting and playing in 52 games in right field. He led the team with 19 doubles while adding two triples and four home runs, and he stole 16 bases as well. His 19 doubles are tied for the fourth-most in a single season in team history, matching Rhett Pfitzner's mark from 1997.
Â
Hoover, meanwhile, served as an effective Saturday starter for much of the season. The freshman righthander posted a 5.46 ERA in 14 appearances, nine starts, while picking up three wins on the mound. He threw 56.0 innings and struck out 38 to only 13 walks. In addition, he combined with
Drew Siegner for a shutout, and he has a save on the season as well.
Â
Keels garnered the All-Academic spot on the strength of a GPA above 3.5, and he was also Longwood's starting center fielder throughout the season. The senior holds a .269 batting average but boasts a .450 on-base percentage thanks to 42 walks, a mark that leads the team. The 42 walks are good for the third-most in a single-season in team history. In addition, Keels has 12 doubles and six home runs, and he leads the Big South with 32 stolen bases.
Â
The Lancers are headed to Asheville, N.C. to take on third-seeded USC Upstate in the first round of the Big South Tournament on Wednesday, May 20. First pitch is set for 3 p.m., and the game is scheduled to air on ESPN+.
