FARMVILLE, VA. – Longwood baseball earned a pair of weekly awards from the Big South Conference after a 3-1 week.
Â
Outfielder
Jae'dan Carter was named the Big South Player of the Week, and
JR Fordham was tabbed as the Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced today.
Â
Carter was a force at the plate in all four games for the Lancers. The junior batted .467 at the plate while hitting safely in all four contests. And he did plenty of damage.
Â
Carter tallied 10 RBI in the four-game run, including a career high four RBI in the series-clinching win over Binghamton on Sunday. He helped fuel Longwood's comeback run that saw the Lancers erase a seven-run deficit in the final five innings in the 9-7 win. He finished with two doubles and a home run on the week, and he drew four walks while only striking out one time in 15 at bats.
Â
Fordham also was pivotal in the team's three-game series. The senior closer shut the door in two games, both wins, during the series.
Â
The righthander didn't allow a run in 4.0 innings of work, and he struck out eight while not giving up a base hit.Â
Â
In his first appearance, he tossed a scoreless frame to close out a 7-3 win to open the series at Binghamton on Friday. After coming on with a runner on first, he promptly set the Bearcats down in order.Â
Â
He one-upped it with 3.0 shutout innings in the series finale to earn the win. The outing was his longest of the season, and he struck out five, also a season high.
Â
The Lancers stay on the road this week when they travel to VMI for the return of a midweek home-and-home before heading to High Point for a three-game series this weekend. All four games are scheduled to air on ESPN+.
