Ninth-Inning Rally Powers Lancers Past Radford 6-5

Carter Flips the Script with Two RBI Triple to Win

RADFORD, Va. – Longwood baseball won game three against Radford with a 6-5 after Jae'dan Carter cranked a clutch two-run truple in the ninth inning put the Lancers on top.

Jack McMullan and Carter led the Lancers (18-10, 4-5 Big South) in RBI with two apiece, while solid relief pitching from Jackson Garland, JR Fordham, and Brady Hoover held the Highlanders (12-12, 2-4 Big South) to four scoreless innings to close the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Longwood started hot in the first with Tre Keels scoring off a passed ball, followed by a two RBI single from Jack McMullan that put the Lancers up 3-0.

Radford responded with five unanswered runs in the second, third, and fifth innings to take the lead 5-3.

Brogan Jones cut the lead 5-4 with a sacrifice fly RBI in the seventh.

That set the stage for Carter's triple to left center to take the late 6-5 lead.

JR Fordham (1-1) earned the win after pitching 1.1 innings with three strikeouts and only one hit allowed.

Brady Hoover (1) earned the save after pitching the ninth with only one walk and one strikeout.

Trey Ludy (0-1) took the loss after pitching 2.1 innings with three strikeouts and two earned runs.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"Not a great weekend for us by any means, but happy to get out of there with a win," said Head Coach Ray Noe. "I was really happy with the way we never quit playing, and credit to the guys for still believing and having faith throughout the course of the game, even when it wasn't necessarily going in our favor. Every win is tough, but especially in conference. The margins are so slim. Not getting swept is enormous when it comes to the big picture of the league."

UP NEXT:

The Lancers continue on the road with a midweek matchup against commonwealth rival VCU on Tuesday, Mar 31 at 1:30 p.m. This game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
