FARMVILLE, Va. –Jon Howard earned his first Big South Player of the Week Honor of his career, the Big South Conference office announced today.
The infielder garnered the honor thanks to four home runs in four games last week, when he hit .529 (9-17).
Howard put up two home runs in Tuesday's midweek matchup against George Mason. He added a double and totaled three RBI in an 11-1 Longwood win.
Over the three-game series against Gardner-Webb, Howard homered twice and put up six hits and two RBI.
In addition, Howard only struck out three times, and five of his nine hits were extra-base hits.
For the season, he leads the Big South in both home runs, with eight, and slugging percentage (.790). He is batting .371, and his 22 RBI are tied for third in the Big South.
Longwood returns to Buddy Bolding Stadium for a mid-week matchup against William and Mary on Mar. 16 at 5 p.m.
