CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Longwood graduate guard Malea Brown has been named Co-Big South Player of the Week, the league announced on Sunday.
Brown averaged 22 points, six rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals for the Lancers, who finished the regular season with a 2-0 week.
Brown scored a career-high 25 points with five 3-pointers in a 96-69 win over Charleston Southern on Wednesday at home. She followed it with 19 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals in an 89-57 win at Presbyterian Saturday to close the regular season.
A Putnam Hall, Fla., native, Brown shot 15-for-27 (55.6 percent) from the floor and 7-of-14 (50 percent from 3-point range for the week.
It marks the second time this season Brown has earned a Big South weekly honor. She was also Co-Player of the Week on Jan. 12.
Brown is averaging 11.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.8 Steals per game in 29 games this season.
Longwood finished the regular season 20-9 overall and 11-5 in the league, earning the No. 3 seed in the Big South tournament. The Lancers will face six-seeded UNC Asheville in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 8:30 p.m., at Freedom Hall Civic Center in Johnson City, Tenn.
