Brown Named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District

Guard earns honor for second consecutive season

FARMVILLE, Va. — Guard Malea Brown of the Longwood women's basketball team has been named to the 2025-26 Academic All-District® NCAA Division I women's basketball team as selected by the College Sports Communicators, the organization announced Tuesday.

Brown, a graduate student from Putnam Hall, Fla., who carries a 3.95 GPA while pursuing her MBA, was one of just two Lancers to start all 31 games this season. She averaged 11.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.8 steals per game in 29.3 minutes per game this season.

The Co-Big South Defensive Player of the Year and a second team all-conference selection, Brown finished second in the Big South in steals per game, second in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7), seventh in assists per game and ninth in 3-pointers made per game (1.8). Brown also finished 10th overall in the Big South in scoring average.

Brown, who was named to the preseason All-Big South second team and twice shared Big South Player of the Week honors in 2025-26, finished her career, tied for seventh all-time at Longwood in career 3-point percentage (33.1), eighth in career free-throw percentage  (76.6) and seventh in career steals (231).

She also posted the ninth most all-time single-season 3-pointers made (56) and seventh most single-season steals (88) in 2025-26.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale and be a starter or key contributor to their respective team.

Brown, who also was named CSC All-District® as a senior last season, will now advance to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® ballot. That honors will be announced at a later date.

Since 1952, the award has recognized the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The Academic All-America® program separately recognizes men's and women's basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Longwood finished 21-10 overall and with its second consecutive 20-win season. The Lancers' season ended in the Big South semifinals.
