RICHMOND, Va. – Longwood women's lacrosse got off to a strong start on Wednesday at VCU, but the Ram (3-2) defense got hot to key the home side to a 15-4 win.

Longwood (0-4) had four goal scorers in its third road game in four games to start the season, but VCU had four goals from Sam Palmer to pull away.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

While VCU struck first to take a 2-0 lead, Longwood quickly rebounded to even the score.
Â
Jordan Fitzgerald scored while the Lancers were down a man to get Longwood on the board, and
Madison Rogers split a double team to tie the score at two all.
Â
However, VCU put three home to end the quarter amid a 5-0 run.
Alexandra Hirst snapped the run with a goal halfway through the second quarter, but VCU slowly extended the lead through the end of the half and into the third as Palmer scored three of her four in that stretch.

Mikaela Cook fired home Longwood's final goal in the fourth quarter, but the damage had been done.
Â
Lu Doyen earned the win in goal for VCU while making four saves, and
Isabella McCullough made five saves in the first half but took the loss for Longwood.

"We have to do better," said Longwood Head Coach
Dwayne Hicks. "We will do better. We just had too many turnovers and penalties. We have to figure this out to get a win. Plus, we need to get to the goal. We're figuring it out."
