Longwood Lacrosse Falls 16-4 to ASUN Favorite Liberty

McCullough Sets Single-Game Saves Record for Lancers with 21

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood lacrosse and Liberty were locked in a defensive battle early on, but a second and third quarter run guided the Flames (1-4) past the Lancers (0-5) 16-4 on Wednesday night.

Katie Colavito led the onslaught for Liberty with six goals, which was enough to stymie an excellent performance from Longwood's goalkeeper, Isabella McCullough, who set the program single-game record with 21 saves.

LWU      1             1             0             2             4

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The first quarter was a back-and-forth defensive battle as the two sides turned the ball over a combined 21 times.

Madison Rogers gave Longwood a 1-0 lead nearly six minutes in on her 11th goal of the season, but Colavito answered with a pair of goals as Liberty took a 3-1 lead into the second quarter.

Bailey Stratton fired home a goal to start the second quarter to cut it to 3-2 for the Lancers, and McCullough made a whopping 10 saves in the 15-minute segment. However, Colavito jumpstarted a 6-0 Liberty run to close the half and take a 9-2 lead at the break.

The run extended through the third and into the fourth for the Flames before Ella Post ended the run with her first collegiate goal for the Lancers. Rogers added her second off a feed from Stratton to close the scoring.

McCullough's 21 saves gave her three games in her past four with at least 10 saves, and it ties for second-most in a game in Big South history. It is also tied for the most saves in a game in the country. She took the tough-luck loss.

Rachel Hines made five saves for Liberty to earn the win.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"Tough game for us," said Longwood Head Coach Dwayne Hicks. "We went in knowing we had to minimize our turnovers and penalties, and that's what they capitalized on. We had a great first quarter. That's what we need to play like moving forward. Shoutout to Ella Post for her first collegiate goal."
