ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Longwood men's tennis team took an early lead, winning doubles at Navy in the its first dual match of the season Thursday, but the Midshipmen rallied to earn a 5-2 victory at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
The Lancers won the doubles point on courts three and two, respectively, to jump in front. Daniel Borisov and Ninad Raut defeated J.J. Etterbeek and Ethan Garcia, 6-2, before Daniel Lopez and Alejandro Uribe topped Tommy Kim and Herrick Legaspi, 7-5, securing the point.
Aniketh Ayinala and Jason Kim defeated Marko Mrdak and Rufus Plane, 6-4, at No. 1.
Uribe retired to Etterbeek down, 2-3, in No. 4 singles as the Miss leveled the dual at 1-1. Ayinala then gave the host the lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Raut on court two. Plane responded with a straight-set, 6-3, 6-4 decision over George Cutone at No. 3 to make it 2-2 prior to Navy taking the final three matches for the dual win.
Legaspi beat Borisov, 7-5, 7-6 (7) from the top spot in the lineup. Jason Kim then clinched the dual with a three-set comeback win over Petter Lindquist, who won the first, 6-2. Kim took the second set, 6-4, and the third in a tiebreak, 7-6 (3).
Tommy Kim won at No. 5 over Lopez, 6-7 (4), 7-5, 1-0 (10-6) to account for the final margin.
Navy moved to 5-2 on the season with the win while the Lancers are now 0-1.
Longwood is back on the courts Saturday at Christopher Newport. First serve is set for noon.
