FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood women's cross country runner Sophie Farley was named the Big South Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week after a strong start to the 2025 season, the conference office announced today.
 
Farley helped lead the team to a sixth place finish out of 14 teams and broke her own personal best, and team record, with a time of 13:51.9 to finish ninth overall in the women's 4k at the Spider Alumni Open.
 
Her time was 31 seconds better than her personal record, set in last year's season opener at the same event.
 
The sophomore earned three Big South Runner of the Week honors as a freshman in 2024, earned a spot on the Big South Second Team, and was named the Longwood Freshman Female Athlete of the Year last spring.
 
At the 2024 Big South Championship, Farley finished tenth overall and broke the program 5K record with a time of 17:47.9. Farley also won two events last season, the Lancer Home Open 5K with a time of 18:46.3 and the Lancer Pink Invitational 5K with a time of 18:39.0.
 
The Lancers will make their way home to the Longwood Golf Course in Farmville, Va., for the Lancer Home Open on Saturday, with the women 's 8k starting a 9 a.m. and the men's 8k starting at 10 a.m.
