Women's Cross Country Sets New Pace in 6K

Farley Leads Lancer Rewrite of Record Book at Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lancers rewrote the top 10 6k times in program history at the Paul Short Run this morning.

Sophie Farley broke yet another record, smashing the program's 6K individual record by more than a minute to lead Longwood's assault on the top 10 times amid a strong field.

NOTABLE RESULTS:
The Lancer women qualified for the Women's College Gold 6K, featuring a top-quality field of 40 teams that are some of the best collegiate cross country teams.

Of the elite 40-team field, the Lancers finished 37th in their first year qualifying for the high-level race while setting a team record for average time in the 6K at 22:23.4.

Farley, as always, led the way. Her time of 20:54.5 broke Alisha Royal's 6K record, set back in 2012, of 22:02. In the process, Farley shaved off more than two minutes off her personal best.

The sophomore finished 60th in the field and got stronger throughout the race. She climbed from 102nd at the first split all the way to her final finishing spot at the line.

Kirsten Morley finished 226th with a personal best of 22:11.0 that would have gone down as the second-fastest 6K time in team history prior to Farley's record-breaking race.

Freshman Sydney O'Hara-Wood made her way onto the top 10 list, finishing 242nd overall with a time of 22:19.2. That time slots in just behind Morley's time, now ranking as the fourth-fastest 6K in team history. She is the second freshman to make the list after Farley did so last season.

Lanie Grogg joined the leaderboard for the first time with a time of 23:10.2 and finished 301st overall. Her time now ranks as the ninth-fastest 6K in team history.

Priscilla Keller made herself a new PR with a time of 23:21.8, finishing 309th overall. She beat her previous 6k record, set last year at the Paul Short Run with a time of 23:23.1, by nearly two seconds. That time also kept her in the team's top 10 record book.

Freshman Riley Humphries made her debut at the distance and put up a strong 23:51.0 while finishing 322nd, and sophomore Madison Davis was just behind her in 324th with a 23:53.6.

Sam Bolen rounded out the group at 24:07.2 to finish in 329th.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"A historic day for the women," said Longwood Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Brooke Craig. "They earned the spot in the most in the most competitive field for the first time and responded to the challenge. They all ran PRs for the 6K, and their 5K equivalent times were PRs or season bests. They did a tough workout on Tuesday, so the goal was to see what we could do with tired legs. I am really proud of what they accomplished today."
