NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Longwood women's tennis team earned 17 wins in 18 matches on the first day of the CNU Duals at Eyre Courts on Saturday.
Facing the host Captains and Washington & Lee on the day, the Lancers had little trouble with the Division III opposition.
Against CNU, Longwood freshmen Bali Song, Hima Fernando and Nicole Di Bisceglia earned their first collegiate wins — all in straight sets.
Feline van Eijkeleburg, Oriana Izarra and Alexandra Magia made it a clean sweep in singles action versus the Captains, as van Eijkelenburg was the only Longwood player to go three sets. She topped Kylie Schaefer, 6-4, 4-6, 10-2.
In doubles against CNU, Song and Fernando beat Lindsey Bergelin and Schaefer, 6-4, and Izarra and Di Bisceglia defeated Scarlett Gamez and Nathalie Lanne, 6-0.
The Lancers won all nine matches against Washington & Lee, including five singles matches in straight sets.
Fernando and Izarra each dropped only one game in their respective matches with Mary Kate Kahl and Greer Webb.
