Webb Tabbed for First Team, Urbaniak Named All-Freshman Team, Nelson Tapped for All-Academic Team

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood baseball had a trio of players earn all-conference accolades, which were announced by the Big South Conference office today.

Myles Webb snared a spot on the All-Big South First Team, and Mikey Urbaniak was tapped for the Big South All-Freshman Team. James Nelson earned a spot on the Big South All-Academic Team.

Webb, who was the utility player on the Big South First Team, led the team with a .354 batting average in 24 Big South games. He also swatted all eight of his home runs and added seven doubles, two triples and 14 stolen bases in league play. The eight homers tied for fifth in the league in conference play, and his 14 stolen bases led the Big South.

The graduate transfer epitomized the utility role, playing five different positions during the season for the Lancers. While he primarily played left field and first, he also spent time at second base and third base and as the designated hitter.

On the season, Webb was among one of the top offensive players across the board. He was second on the team with a .296 batting average, tied for the team lead with eight home runs and 49 RBI, and third with 13 doubles. He stole 24 bases, good for second on the team, and had a team-best three triples. He was also the only player on the roster who started all 52 games.

Urbaniak, meanwhile, was dynamic as a freshman who ranked third on the team in batting average (.294) to earn his All-Freshman Team spot. He roped 14 doubles, good for second on the team, and he had a team-leading .455 on-base percentage.

He drew 36 walks, good for ninth in the Big South, and also swatted three home runs and two triples. A catcher, he made 43 starts and played in 46 games while also stealing nine bases.

In Big South play, he boosted his batting average to .313, and he hit all three of his homers in conference action. Ten of his 14 doubles came in league play as well.

In the regular season's final week, he batted .500 to be named the Big South Freshman of the Week on Monday, May 19. It was the second time this season he had been named Freshman of the Week for the league.

Nelson earned his All-Academic Team honors behind strong work in the classroom. He boasted a GPA above 3.8 as an undergraduate, and close to that as a graduate student. Five times Nelson was a Dean's List honoree in his time at Longwood, and he earned President's List recognition for a perfect 4.0 twice.

Even while he was successful off the field, Nelson combined with Webb to form a potent pairing in the Lancer lineup. He led the team with a .323 batting average and 16 doubles, and he tied for the team lead with eight home runs and 49 RBI.

In league action, he hit .347 while driving in 22 runs behind five home runs and seven doubles. The right fielder walked 12 times to only 11 strikeouts in 24 Big South contests.

The Lancers closed the regular season with a three-game sweep of Radford to move into a tie for seventh in the Big South.
