AMHERST, Mass. – Longwood field hockey played its second straight on the road, but the Lancers (3-9, 1-4 MAC) were on the wrong end of the score line on Friday at No. 16 UMass.
Â
The high-powered Minutewomen (11-2, 4-1 MAC) pulled away in the middle of the game to win 5-0.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
The Lancers played a defensive first quarter, keeping the Minutewomen scoreless for the first 15 minutes of match time.
Â
However, Elena Cloconeanu found Megan Carpenter for the game's first goal early in the second quarter to give UMass the lead.
Â
The Lancers had a pair of shots of their own, but a penalty corner for UMass saw Fiene Jenniskens play it to Lina Kroeger for a 2-0 lead going into the half.
Â
UMass broke the game open with a three-goal third behind a goal from Cloconeanu and two from Emily Barrett to put the game out of reach.
Â
Sophie Mooldijk made 10 saves in goal, including five in the second quarter, for the Lancers.
