CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Longwood senior guard
Mariah Wilson has been named Co-Big South Conference Player of the Week in women's basketball, the league announced Monday.
Wilson averaged 20 points, five rebounds and three steals per game, helping Longwood to a 2-0 week with a 95-51 win at UNC Asheville Wednesday and a 77-59 victory over Winthrop Saturday.
Wilson posted a career-high 23 points with five boards, three assists and two steals at the Bulldogs and tallied 17 points, five rebounds and four steals against the Eagles.
She shot 14-for-22 (63.6 percent) from the field, 4-of-9 (44.4) from 3-point range and made all eight of her free throws for the week as the Lancers stretched their winning streak to six games overall, moving to 4-0 in Big South play.
Wilson is fifth in the Big South in scoring, averaging 11.7 points per game, while being ninth in the NCAA in steals (52) and 22nd in steals per game (2.89).
A transfer from Towson, the weekly honor is the first of her career. Wilson joins
Kiki McIntyre (Jan. 6),
Amor Harris (Dec. 9) and
Frances Ulysse (Nov. 18) as Longwood league Player of the Week recipients this season. It also marks the first time since Jan. 11 and 18, 2021 that Lancers claimed the award in consecutive weeks as Kyla McMakin and Akila Smith did so, respectively.
Longwood (13-5), alone atop the Big South standings, is back in action Wednesday, traveling to High Point at 7 p.m., on ESPN+.
