Lancers Fall On The Road At American 4-0

American uses strong second and third quarters to power past Longwood

Washington D.C. - American scored twice in the second quarter Sunday afternoon, and later pulled away in the third with two more goals to take down the Lancers. Longwood (1-1) played the first quarter tightly with the Patriot League favorites, before dropping their second match of the season against American (1-3.)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Longwood and American played a clean first quarter, with the two defenses combining to surrender a total of two shots, both by American. Santia McLaughlin saved the lone shot that was on target to keep the match at a stalemate through 15 minutes.

The Eagles struck first in the 20th minute, when F.T. Dellamaggiore placed her first goal of the season in the back of the net. They added a second goal with less than two minutes left in the first half, taking a 2-0 lead at the break.

Opportunities for the Lancers were slim throughout the day as the Patriot League preseason favorite stood strong on the back end. Longwood had two shots on the day and one shot on goal.

Sophie Mooldijk saw her first career action in the goal for the Lancers where she made three saves.

Santie McLaughlin (1-1) took the loss for Longwood on Sunday, while Bryn Underwood (1-3) picked up the win for American.

UP NEXT:
Longwood looks to bounce back at home on Friday when they host Queens. The match is set for 5 p.m., and it will air on ESPN+.
