FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood men's soccer team is set to face a tough 16-match regular-season slate, first-year head coach
Paul Gilbert announced Tuesday.
The Lancers will play six matches in Farmville this season, including two outside of league play.
Following exhibitions at NCAA tournament participant Virginia (Aug. 10) and against Old Dominion (Aug.17), the Lancers open season at East Tennessee State at 8:30 p.m. Also on the non-conference docket for Longwood is Liberty (Aug. 26), Navy (Sept. 7) and Campbell (Oct. 1) at home.
Longwood plays at William & Mary (Sept. 4), UNC Greensboro (Sept. 10), Mount St. Mary's (Sept. 14), Wofford (Oct. 15) and Duke (Oct. 29) to round out non-league action.
Big South play begins Sept. 22 at Presbyterian with a 1 p.m., kickoff. The Lancers' conference opener is slated for Sept. 27 against USC Upstate under the lights at the Longwood Athletics Complex at 7 p.m.
The Lancers travel to Rock Hill, S.C., and Winthrop Oct. 4 to begin a three-match road trip, which includes High Point on Oct. 11 and Wofford.
Gardner-Webb comes to Farmville Oct. 19 prior to Longwood heading to UNC Asheville Oct. 26.
The Lancers close the regular season Nov. 2 at 2 p.m., hosting Radford.
A season ago, Longwood finished 6-6-3 overall and 1-5-1 overall.
