Martinez Added to Men’s Soccer Staff as Assistant Coach

Spain native joins Lancers after standout NAIA career

FARMVILLE, Va. – David Martinez has been hired as a Longwood men's soccer assistant coach, head coach Paul Gilbert announced on Tuesday.

Martinez, who will mentor the Lancers' goalkeepers, comes to Farmville following three seasons of NAIA soccer at Indiana Tech (2023-24) and Ottawa (2025). He helped guide the Warriors and Braves to a combined three NAIA national tournament appearances.

"I am so excited to welcome David to Longwood and the men's soccer program," said Gilbert. "Having worked with David before, we are confident that he will come in and add immense value to our staff and program. David's high-level playing experience and detail-oriented approach will allow him to easily transition into a full-time coaching role."

Martinez made 22 appearances and 19 starts in two seasons at Indiana Tech, going 10-4-5 with a .738 save percentage, 1.11 goals-against average and six clean sheets. At Ottawa, he was 10-0-6 in 23 matches with a .765 save percentage and 1.04 goals-against average. He posted six shutouts in 2025.

"I'm excited to join the Longwood men's soccer staff," Martinez said. "This is a great opportunity, and I'm looking forward to working with the players, learning from the coaching staff and helping the program continue to grow and succeed."

Martinez, a native of Yecla, Spain, earned a degree from Indiana Tech in communications in 2025.
