WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – As Longwood outdoor track continues to build in their first season, a select few runners and sprinters competed and showed well at the Colonial Relays over the weekend.
Haley Slattery crushed it in the 10K,
Alec Daniel showcased a strong start with a bright future in the 3,000m steeplechase, and the men's 4x200m relay squad capped the event.

In the men's 4x200m relay, the quartet of

WHAT THEY SAID:
"
Haley Slattery absolutely crushed her 10k debut," said Longwood Head Coach
Brooke Craig. "This is something she has been focused on for the past few years. She ran the 10k as if she was a seasoned veteran and executed the race plan perfectly. The goal was to break the school record and set a benchmark before conference."
"Haley truly lives our mission statement of 'Set the Standard,'" Craig said. "She's putting in the extra miles and embraces the little things that make her successful. I was not surprised at all that she ran the school record. She has earned every pr and top time she's run so far this season."
"Alec had a tremendous steeplechase debut," Craig said. "We decided on Wednesday to race on Friday, and he stepped up to the challenge. The mission for him was just to learn the event, and he ran only 29 seconds shy of the school record. Both he and Nicolas Williams have now debuted in the event and are ready to continue to learn and develop as we set our eyes on the conference championship."
"Overall, the team ran well," said Longwood Sprints Coach
Rob Gritzer about the men's 4x200 relay. "It wasn't a perfect run, but it was a good opportunity to get exposure with some historically established teams. If 1:31 is the baseline, this program is set up for a lot of success moving forward."
