Longwood Fights, High Point Takes Game Two 4-1

Lancers Battle, but High Point Escapes Multiple Jams

HIGH POINT, NC - Longwood got down early, and High Point's pitching worked out of multiple jams to win game two 4-1. The Lancers (15-20, 3-8) put pressure on the Panthers (19-16, 8-3) throughout the last five innings, but failed to catch the big break.

TOP LWU PERFORMERS:
Ryan Perez: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 BB
Tanner Thomas: 1-2, 1 R, 1 HBP, 1 BB
Guillermo Garcia Jr.: 2.2 IP, 2 SO, 0 ER

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Ryan Perez led off the first inning with a double in the cap before Brett Wozniak retired the next three batters.

High Point took that momentum and scored first in the bottom of the second inning courtesy of a Braden Simpson single and a sacrifice fly a few batters later. Andrew Potojecki stopped the damage there as he retired the next batter to limit the damage to two runs.

Longwood would get on the board in the top half of the fourth. Tanner Thomas and Drew Camp singled to start the inning, and Thomas scored on a throwing error later in the inning to cut the Panthers lead to 3-1.

From there the combination of High Point pitchers Brett Wozniak, Adam Grintz, and Howell Polk combined to keep the Lancers off the board the rest of the way. Longwood saw multiple runners reach base throughout the next five innings, but the Panthers pitching staff worked out of the tough spots to take a 4-1 win on Saturday evening.

Guillermo Garcia Jr. pitched the final 2.2 innings for Longwood while striking out two to keep the Lancers in striking distance.

Andrew Potojecki (0-4) took the loss for Longwood as Wozniak (4-1) earned the victory.

WHAT THEY SAID:
"We have to continue to get better and take advantage of our chances when we get them," said head coach Chad Oxendine. "Tomorrow is another big opportunity for us."
