Longwood Falls 7-1 To Ninth-Ranked Liberty

Lancers Offer Early Fight, but High-Powered Flames Pull Away

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood field hockey hung around early, but ninth-ranked Liberty muscled past the Lancers on Sunday afternoon. The Flames (9-1) pulled away after a close first quarter to down the Lancers (2-8) 7-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
While Liberty applied heave pressure early and scored twice, Longwood kept hanging around in the first quarter.
 
Longwood earned the first penalty corner of the match, and Zoe Tierney slotted it home to cut the Liberty lead to 2-1 with six minutes remaining in the first.
 
From that point on, though, the top-10 Flames found their groove. Milagros Arteta scored her second goal of the match early in the second quarter, and Liberty began to pull away.
