FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood field hockey hung around early, but ninth-ranked Liberty muscled past the Lancers on Sunday afternoon. The Flames (9-1) pulled away after a close first quarter to down the Lancers (2-8) 7-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

While Liberty applied heave pressure early and scored twice, Longwood kept hanging around in the first quarter.
Â
Longwood earned the first penalty corner of the match, and
Zoe Tierney slotted it home to cut the Liberty lead to 2-1 with six minutes remaining in the first.

From that point on, though, the top-10 Flames found their groove. Milagros Arteta scored her second goal of the match early in the second quarter, and Liberty began to pull away.
