The First Pitch:
  • Longwood will face Charleston Southern in the first round of the Big South Championship tomorrow.
  • First pitch is set for 4 p.m. from Radford. The remainder of Longwood's schedule is contingent upon both their opponents and their results.
  • The Lancers hold an 8-5 record at neutral locations this season.
  • Longwood was victorious over Charleston Southern in their regular season series, winning games one and two while dropping an 11-inning affair in game three.
  • Longwood holds a 27-10 Division-I record against Charleston Southern all-time.

Last Time Out:
  • Longwood earned the #1 overall seed in the 2023 Big South Softball Championship this past weekend after defeating Campbell in the final regular season series of the season.
  • Campbell earned a share of the regular season title after defeating Longwood 4-3 in game one of the series, but the Lancers captured games two and three to win the series 2-1 and earn the tiebreaker to give them the #1 seed.
  • Falling to a 4-0 deficit in the fifth inning of game one, the Lancers rallied back to cut the Campbell lead to only one run in the sixth inning. Longwood had a chance to tie the game in the seventh, but Jaden Pone was called out at first to end the game as Peyton Coleman came across the plate for what would have been the tying run.
  • After a heartbreaking game one loss, the Lancers came out determined to force a deciding game three. Longwood quickly jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of game two and never looked back.
  • The Lancers rallied again in game three, scoring four in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-4 lead.
  • Er'ron Burton was sensational last week and in the series, posting a 0.48 ERA over 14.2 innings pitched with 16 strikeouts.
  • Burton threw a complete game with only one run in game two and retired the final six batters in order to close out game three.
  • Maryanna Guy won her third Big South Freshman of the Week for her efforts. The freshman hit two home runs in the series vs. Campbell.
  • Longwood's all-time Division-I record against Campbell moved to 27-17 following the series.

Quotables:

"You know the top four teams in this conference are there for a reason. Everyone shows up, everyone goes blow for blow. So it's going to be a dog fight." -Head Coach Dr. Megan Brown ahead of this week's Big South Championship.
