HOW IT HAPPENED:
Longwood (5-7) dropped the opening doubles matches of the day at No. 1 and No. 2, and Richmond (10-5) claimed the first point of the dual. However, the duo of
Yoav Weinberg and
Luis Reis picked up a 6-3 victory at No. 3 to build some momentum for the Lancers headed into singles play.
However, the Spiders put on a dominant display, earning wins at No. 1 and No. 2 to set the tone for the rest of the dual. The Lancers did find themselves in several close matches, including tiebreakers in the first set from
Ernest Rocabert and
Alejandro Uribe No. 3 and No. 5. Although the matches were close, they both were ultimately left unfinished as Richmond had already clinched itself the dual meet win.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"Richmond came out firing and were just too strong for us today," said Longwood Director of Tennis Adam Jackson. "They have a solid team and kept us from playing our best. We look to turn it around this weekend at Gardner-Webb."
UP NEXT:
The Lancers hit the road this weekend for another Big South matchup against the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs. The first match is set to begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Boiling Springs, N.C.
