HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
Longwood women's tennis (6-11) began the day's matches in doubles play, ultimately dropping the dual's initial point. The duos at No. 1 and No. 3 both dropped 6-3 results to their Charleston Southern (13-5) adversaries while the team of
Maria Saez and
Nina Hederich's match at No. 2 was left unfinished.
Â
The Buccaneers claimed a second point at No. 1 in singles, but had to battle to claim their third.
Maria Saez and Charleston Southern's Amila Jusufbegovic battled to a third set at No. 2, but CSU came away with the win.
Â
Marina Skegro's win over
Karina Rizvanova at No. 3 cemented the dual meet victory for the Bucs, and as a result the matches at No. 4 and 5 were left unfinished despite both
Sophia Marchetta and
Wiktoria Czerny each heading to third sets.
Â
On the men's side, Longwood (5-8) dropped the opening doubles point to PC (11-9) after falling in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. However, the duo of
Luis Reis and
Yoav Weinberg did earn a victory at the No. 3 spot despite dropping the overall doubles point.
Â
The Blue Hose went on to claim victories at all six starting spots to clinch their second Big South win on the year. While PC ultimately won each of the matches, several Lancers had respectable showings, including a tiebreak loss in the second set at No. 1 from
Guillermo Cagigas and a crazy match that went all the way to a tenth point in the third set from Timéo Puech at No. 3.
