For the second time in the series, one run was the difference between the two teams. The margins in the Big South are razor thin, and all three games in the series were decided by a total of four runs.
Longwood (7-15, 0-3 Big South) led 3-2 heading into the ninth, but Alec Burns hit a two-run walkoff home run to give Gardner-Webb the sweep.

Despite the outcome, the Lancers had positives to draw on as the team is in the midst of an eight-game road trip. Starting pitcher
Andrew Potojecki excelled for a second straight outing. The righthander was downright filthy and retired the side in order in six of his seven innings, with his seven innings matching a career high. He gave up two runs on three hits while striking out seven.
Kevin Warunek also tossed a scoreless relief inning in the eighth for his second straight scoreless outing of the season. The Lancer pitchers also tied a season low with one walk.
The team outhit Gardner-Webb 9-5.
Eliot Dix erupted for five base hits for a second time this season as the redshirt-junior went a perfect 5-5 at the plate for the second time in less than a week.
Gregory Ryan, Jr. added a pair of base hits as well.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"Potojecki was lights out today," said Longwood Head Coach
Chad Oxendine. "I hate we couldn't pull it off for him. He continues to give us chances to win games."
"Our guys played a really good game," Oxendine added. "I'm proud of how they responded after two tough games yesterday."
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Eliot Dix has the last three five-hit games for the Lancers. He also had a five-hit game against Richmond on Wednesday, March 15, and he had a five-hit game against Maryland Eastern Shore in February 2022.
