DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson used an 18-0 run spanning the first and second quarters to pull away from the Longwood women's basketball team for an 83-46 victory at Belk Arena on Saturday.

The Wildcats, who improved to 7-1 with the victory, extending their best start in history, shot 49 percent from the field and put three players in double figures for their fifth consecutive victory.

Longwood (2-5) scored first and hung with the high-powered Wildcats through much of the first quarter before the Davidson offense exploded while simultaneously holding the Lancers scoreless for more than nine minutes.

Junior
Malea Brown (eight points, four rebounds, three steals) hit a 3-pointer 31 seconds into the game for the early lead. After Maddie Plank converted a layup for an 11-3 Davidson edge at the 5:40 mark,
Anne-Hamilton LeRoy finished off a three-point play, and Andriana Shipp-Davis scored five points in quick succession to cut the deficit to 13-11 with 4:25 remaining in the quarter.

From there, Davidson poured it on, opening a 25-11 advantage after the first quarter, leading 36-17 at halftime and 53-29 through three periods.

Mallorie Haines led all players with 22 points on 7-for-10 shooting, while Millie Prior had a double-double of 17 points and 19 rebounds.

Shipp-Davis paced the Lancers with 13 points, adding four boards. LeRoy scored 10 with two rebounds and two steals.

Longwood shot 30 percent from the floor, connected on 17 of 57 shots overall, was 3-for-12 from 3-point range and 9-for-13 from the line.

Davidson outrebounded the Lancers, 54-26, turning 25 offensive boards into 27 points.
