FARMVILLE, Va. – SpongeBob SquarePants hits a grounder to the Tyrannosaurus Rex at third base, but the dinosaur can only watch helplessly as the ball goes between his legs because his arms are too short. Down the left field line, a blind umpire fields the ball, but his relay throw into the infield is off the mark.
Those sentences may sound like something out of a MadLib, but plays like that are routine at Farmville's whackiest baseball game, the Spooky Slugfest.
The goofy, costumed intra-squad scrimmage returns to Buddy Bolding Stadium on Thursday, October 26 at 6 p.m. as the baseball team takes the field in full costume.
The exhibition is a family-friendly event, and kids (and fans) of all ages are encouraged to don their favorite Halloween costumes.
There will be food trucks with food available for purchase during the game, and music and in-game fun galore.
Following the scrimmage, kids will be able to get down on the field and play games, run the bases, and of course, acquire copious amounts of candy from the Lancer Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
