HOW IT HAPPENED:

Longwood (2-12, 1-2 Big South) didn't take long to score its first points of the game, as Anne-Hamilton LeRoy connected on a pull-up mid-range jumper on the game's first possession. Charleston Southern (2-12, 0-3 Big South) responded well, generating a 9-2 lead through the first three minutes of action. The Lancers didn't let the Buccaneer lead get out of hand, holding their opponent's margin to within single-digits for the entirety of the quarter, resulting in an 18-10 CSU lead after the first.

Despite a 5-0 run by the Bucs through the first three minutes of the second, the Lancers stormed back in the frame. LeRoy knocked down a triple off a Chardonnay Hartley assist to cut the lead back down to single digits. Trailing by nine with just under five minutes to go in the quarter, Longwood's offense came alive, orchestrating a 14-7 run to round out the quarter. Longwood took its first lead since the first possession of the game in the final seconds of the half thanks to a Milou Vennema triple and inbound steal and score from Hartley. The Lancers found themselves leading 37-33 after two quarters of play.

The Lancers and Bucs traded buckets in the third quarter, with neither side being able to truly pull away. Longwood electrified the Willett Hall crowd with several huge plays, including a euro-step layup from LeRoy and a fast-break and-one opportunity from Janay Turner. However, Charleston Southern was responding well, resulting in each team scoring 20 points in the quarter on route to a 57-53 Longwood lead.

Although the Buccaneers briefly took the lead to open the fourth, the Lancers would soon take back control of the game. Adriana Shipp-Davis and Alyssa Chapman were huge for Longwood down the stretch, as each put up eight points respectively in the fourth quarter. The Lancers outscored the Bucs 23-17 in the final ten minutes, resulting in Longwood's second victory of the season and first in Big South play.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"Our defensive pressure turned up and we were able to get some steals and convert," said head coach Erika Lang-Montgomery on her team's defense. "We had a lot of people step up. We had Brooke Anya out tonight, so that's a big spot that we needed to fill. I thought Daysha Reid stepped up tonight when her number was called."

"Our coaches and my teammates trust in me, and they told me to get to the basket so I just did what I was comfortable doing," said Adriana Shipp-Davis on her career night. "I think my teammates scoring early opened a lot of stuff for me…playing together made it so that I could attack."

"I thought [Adriana Shipp-Davis and Anne-Hamilton LeRoy] were pretty strong and consistent," said Lang-Montgomery of her team's top scorers, who combined for 42 points. "They were patient on offense…we were getting the right shots."
