HOW IT HAPPENED:

Longwood's (2-13, 1-3) offense took a few minutes to get going, being held scoreless through the first three minutes. Bailey Williams got the scoring started for the Lancers on a triple from distance. Winthrop (3-11, 1-2) and Longwood traded runs in the frame, with the Eagles scoring more earlier in the quarter and the opposite taking place for the Lancers. A late Anne-Hamilton LeRoy jumper put the Lancers ahead 14-13 heading into the second quarter.

After a quick four points curtesy of a LeRoy jumper and Milou Vennema bucket inside, Winthrop put together a 9-0 run to lead 22-18 with under five minutes left in the half. However, Longwood responded well, going on a 10-2 run of their own led by an and-one layup from Janay Turner and another five points added from LeRoy. After reclaiming the lead, Winthrop would do the same, scoring five points of their own in the final two minutes to claim a 29-28 halftime lead.

LeRoy continued to stay hot to open the second half, adding another six points to put her total at 18 through the first five minutes of the third. LeRoy and Longwood led a 10-0 run for over four minutes of play, and it looked as if the Lancers were going to run away with it. This wouldn't be the case, as Winthrop stormed back, concluding the third on a 12-4 run. Longwood held a 46-45 advantage with only one quarter to go.

After Winthrop tied the contest early on in the first quarter, Longwood snagged some momentum off of another Bailey Williams triple to lead 50-47 within the first two minutes of play. The Eagles offense then took center stage, led by ten points from Shamyjha Price in the frame. After a Price three-pointer put Winthrop up 55-52 with six minutes to go, they wouldn't look back, outscoring Longwood 24-9 in the fourth to pick up a 69-55 victory.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"Winthrop did a great job of crashing the boards the whole game," said head coach Erika Lang-Montgomery. "They capitalized on those put backs late and were able to find shooters that hit big shots when they needed it."

"Anne has been a scorer for us all year," said Lang-Montgomery on Anne-Hamilton LeRoy's career night. "She provides a calm for us when she is on the floor. She was efficient with her minutes today."

"There is a lot we can learn from both games [this week]," said Lang-Montgomery following a 1-1 week for her team in the Big South. "Let's take the positives and build on those things Monday and Tuesday in practice as we get ready for Asheville and Upstate next week."
