FARMVILLE, Va. - Campbell survived a bases loaded top of the seventh for the Lancers, with a double play from right fielder Danielle Northrup to end the game 5-2.Â
Last time the Camels and Lancers met was a 14 inning pitchers duel, Thursday a little bit different of a story.Â
Campbell (35-16) got up early and maintained the lead on Thursday, in comfortable fashion.Â
Georgeanna Barefoot (22-11) struck out two in the 5-2 victory, allowing seven hits and two walks.
The Camels offense went up early 2-0 due to an RBI single scoring Ware and Henault off the bat of Samantha Fontaine.Â
Longwood (31-23) responded in the second at the helm of senior Sydney Jacobsen. The first basemen rocked her seventh home run of the season over the left center fence putting the score 2-1 after two innings played. Â
For Longwood, it was Sydney Backstrom (21-12) in the circle who threw three strikeouts and five walks in the five run game.Â
Campbell kept the bats hot, grabbing six hits and five runs at the end of the game Thursday.Â
Longwood rallied in the top of the seventh getting the bases loaded with Alexis Wayland at the plate, one out recorded.Â
A sacrifice fly to Northrup, scored Jaden Pone; but a bullet to third ended the game right there with a tag out on a sliding Fox just before touching safely.Â
"We have a hard road ahead this weekend, but this is what our team has worked so hard for all year," said Head Coach Megan Brown. "We have to take things one game at a time."Â
Longwood prepares to play tomorrow, Friday, May 13 against the winner of the Charleston Southern, Presbyterian game Thursday afternoon.Â
