Biography

2022 (Senior): Earned a Big South First Team recognition following an explosive senior year campaign. She was the only player to appear and start in all 58 games for Longwood. Wayland held the team’s best slugging percentage the entire year, finishing with .543 overall percentage. She finished with a .315 b/avg and a personal best .338 ob%. The senior led the team in RBIs with 38, doubles with 12, and home runs with eight. She added 58 hits to her career, as well as three triples, 430 putouts, 39 assists, and 26 runs for the Lancers. Wayland earned a spot in the Longwood record book, on the list of career RBI total, as she finished with 127.

2021 (Junior): Started all 54 games and led Longwood in RBI (34) and home runs (7)…second-leading hitter on the team with a .250 average and 44 hits, trailing only classmate Sydney Jacobsen in both categories…slugged .419 with eight doubles and seven home runs…successful in 7-of-10 stolen base chances…also tied for the team lead with nine multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI games…had the team’s longest hitting streak of the season at 13 games…made 43 of her 54 starts behind the plate, eight at third base and three as the designated player…made 32 starts in Longwood’s No. 3 spot, 12 at cleanup, six as the leadoff batter and two in the No. 5 spot…caught Big South Pitcher of the Year Sydney Backstrom’s perfect game against Presbyterian on April 17…named to the Big South All-Academic Team.

2020 (Sophomore): Started all 21 games, one of only three Lancers to start every game…made a team-high 12 of those starts behind the plate, eight at third base and another in left field…batted leadoff in a team-high 17 games…also hit at the No. 3 spot three times and at the No. 5 slot once…hit .254 (18-for-71) with four doubles, two homers and a triple…led the team with 18 hits and 13 RBI…logged a .423 slugging percentage, second-best on the team behind only fellow utility player Sydney Jacobsen, who slugged .593…scored eight runs…caught two runners stealing behind the plate…strung together three consecutive multi-hit games in a two-day span against Niagara, Valparaiso and Creighton…hit .583 (7-for-12) and drove in nine runs during that stretch…drove in a career-high six runs against Niagara on March 7, going 3-for-5 at the plate with a triple…had a season-long four-game hit streak from Feb. 28-29…drove in 11 runs in her final six games while hitting .435 (10-for-23) during that span.
 
2019 (Freshman): Named to the Big South All-Freshman Team…started all 59 games, the bulk of which were at third base…also started one game behind the plate…hit in the leadoff or No. 2 spot every game…finished third on the team with a .270 (54-for-200) batting average…tied for the team lead with 42 RBI…led the team with nine home runs and 39 runs scored and tied for the team lead in doubles (13) and extra-base hits (23)…slugged .480, the second-highest clip on the team…top 10 in the Big South in RBI, runs scored, doubles and total bases (96)…had multiple hits in 15 games, the second-most on the team behind only designated player Karleigh Donovan’s 17…also tied for the team lead with 13 multi-RBI games…had a season-long hitting streak of seven games and a reached-base streak of 12 games…drove in a career-high five runs on March 23 against USC Upstate, going 2-for-3 with a home run that day…homered in the NCAA Regional game against North Carolina…also hit a double in the NCAA Regional game against Tennessee.

Prior to Longwood: Becomes the second Lancer in as many years to come to Longwood from Standardsville, Va., following in the footsteps of current sophomore Leah Powell … Tied the Virginia High School League record for most home runs hit in a single game during her sophomore season… Earned All-Conference and All-District honors in each of her three seasons, including first-team honors all three years ... Was named first-team All-Region following her freshman year and second-team the past two seasons, while being named to the 2017 Second-Team All-Central Virginia as a catcher … Served throughout her senior year as the president of National Honors Society and has been a member of William Monroe's BETA Club for the past three years.
