ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team defeated Longwood 5-2. The victory marks UNC Asheville's sixth victory of the season and their first win in conference play.
Doubles
No.1 doubles pairing for UNC Asheville(6-1) was senior Leo Bierbaum and sophomore Jon Brann Reid. The duo took down Longwood graduate
Rosen Naydenov and freshman
Luis Reis 6-3. Longwood would come-back with two victories as the No.2 and No.3 pairings of senior
Guillermo Cagigas and junior
Ernest Rocabert, defeated Quinn Fenders and Harry Thursfield in a 7-5 tiebreaker. Freshmen
Nikhil Kulkarni and
Yoav Weinberg had a similar 7-5 tiebreaker outcome over the tandem of Bruno Serra and Rafa Serra. The late matches clinched the doubles point for Longwood.
Singles
The Bulldogs took down the Lancers in No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 singles when Reid, junior Harry Thursfield, and Serra bested Naydenov, Cagigas, and Kast respectively, in straight sets. No. 2 singles saw Bierbaum edge out Cagigas 6-4, 7-5. Reis finished out the contest by scoring a Longwood point, defeating Serra, R 6-2, 6-1.
