WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Longwood men's tennis team swept Coppin State University 7-0 to claim their second victory on the season.
Doubles
The no.1 tandem for Longwood(2-4) of
Rosen Naydenov and
Luis Reis swept Vansh Kapoor and Sergiu Medesan 6-0 to start the match on the right foot. The No.2 matchup between
Guillermo Cagigas and
Ernest Rocabert and Luka Markovic and Anas Haddou saw the match go to a tiebreaker. Longwood's duo would pull out the victory 7-6 to clinch the doubles point for Longwood.
Yoav Weinberg and
Jourdan Kast got the nod as the No.3 pairing for Longwood but received the win by default due to Coppin State not being able to field a third doubles team.
Singles
In singles, No.1 Naydenov, No.3 Kast and No.4 Rocabert all won in straight sets over Markovic, Dean Waterman and Haddou, respectively. The No.2 match went to a tiebreaker, but ultimately saw Cagigas defeat Medesan 7-5, 4-6, 10-5. Weinberg played an eight game pro set against Kapoor in the No.5 singles, due to the match already being clinched, and reigned victorious, 8-6. Reis was the No.6 for Longwood and won by default due to Coppin State not being able to field a No.6 for singles.
"Both teams came out ready to play today," said director of tennis
Adam Jackson, "we hope to carry some of this momentum into Friday's matches."
