HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
Louisville (5-2) began the night efficiently, shooting 60% from the field in the first quarter.
Adriana Shipp-Davis picked up six points in the opening frame for Longwood (1-4) off of a tough and-one finish inside and a step-back three-pointer. The Lancers picked it up defensively in the second quarter, holding the Cardinals to 42% from the field in the frame. Longwood scored ten points in both the first and second quarters, leading to a 54-20 Louisville lead going into the locker room.
Shipp-Davis opened the scoring in the second half after scoring inside after an initial defensive stop from the Lancers. While Louisville couldn't replicate their efficiency from the first quarter, the Cardinals still remained aggressive offensively in the frame and played excellent defense. The Cardinals were able to increase their lead in the second half due to continued execution on both ends of the floor, and they would ride their consistent play to the victory.

WHAT THEY SAID:
Â
"I thought we competed hard, our goal was to compete for forty minutes and I thought we did a good job with that," said head coach
Erika Lang-Montgomery on the loss. "We really need to get better rebounding…we've got to figure out how to get more physical and grittier on the boards."
"You can't simulate Louisville or Virginia Tech's size and speed in practice, so this was a great preparation for us to get ready for Virginia Tech," said Lang-Montgomery on the team's upcoming tilt against the Hokies.
