BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Continuing a three-year run that has seen them go 10-1 against Big South foes, Gardner-Webb cruised past Longwood 6-1 Thursday afternoon at Webb Tennis Complex.
 
Longwood senior Guilherme Sergio blocked the singles sweep with a two-set win over Gardner-Webb's Christian Wyk at the No. 2 slot. The win was his second straight and third in the past three matches as the longtime standout has bounced back and forth between the No. 1 and No. 2 slots in the early part of the season.
 
However, that was the Lancers' lone win on the day, as Runnin' Bulldogs earned straight-set wins at No. 1, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 to improve to 2-0 in the Big South and 8-1 on their home court. Longwood's last shot at a singles win came at the No. 4 spot where senior Rosen Naydenov took his counterpart Connor Enslin to three sets before falling 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
 
The loss comes in Longwood's Big South opener and is the Lancers' second straight after they had strung together back-to-back wins against Southern Virginia and N.C. Central on March 5. Longwood will have a quick turnaround before coming back to campus for back-to-back game days, first against Chowan this Saturday at 2 p.m. followed by a Sunday bout against future Big South foe North Carolina A&T.
