Lancer Leadoff 
  • Longwood is wrapping up a nine-game road swing at Norfolk State, and 13 of the team's previous 16 were on the road.

  • Jacob Mitchell has hit a team-best seven home runs. Hunter Gilliam has hit four, Antwaun Tucker has hit three and De'Andre Pitts, Jawan McAllister and Nate Blakeney all have two.
  • Gilliam hit the team's first homer of the season on opening weekend against Maryland Eastern Shore.
  • Mitchell had the team's first multi-homer game after knocking out two solo shots against Gardner-Webb on March 16 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Last Time Out
  • Longwood lost another heartbreaker after Radford rallied with two outs and scored two runs on an error to finish a sweep of Longwood, 5-4, on April 20. Antwaun Tucker had hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the eighth inning to give Longwood a 4-3 lead. 
Scouting Norfolk State
  • Longwood and Norfolk State played earlier in the season at Buddy Bolding Stadium in Farmville. Norfolk State won 10-4 after taking a 4-2 lead through three innings. NSU took a 1-0 lead in its half of the first, but Longwood answered with a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead. The Spartans made it 4-2 with a two-out rally in the third before adding three more with a three-run, two out double in the sixth. Longwood had two players exit due to injury in the game.
  • Norfolk State lost the series finale against Coppin State on Sunday, 5-0, after taking the first two games of the series 6-0 and 4-3. The Spartans have won five of their past six after sweeping Maryland Eastern Shore in the previous weekend and posting double digit runs in each game (20-4, 24-5, 12-8).
  • Norfolk State is hitting .281 as a team while hitting 13 home runs and 13 triples, and the Spartans have stolen 92 bases on 120 attempts. The 92 stolen bases lead the MEAC, with the second place team 26 stolen bases behind the Spartans.
  • Alsander Womack leads the team with a .438 batting average and a .504 on-base percentage while driving in 26 runs. He has only struck out seven times against 15 walks. Justin Hayes has a team-best 24 stolen bases to go with a .328 batting average, and Stephen Baughan leads the team with five home runs and 15 doubles. Caleb Ward has driven in a team-high 35 runs while posting a .310 batting average.
  • James Deloatch, the projected starter, has pitched mostly out of the bullpen. Ten of his 12 appearances are from the pen, but his last two appearances have been starts. He tied a career high with 4.0 innings at Richmond on 4/3 and surrendered three runs on four hits and five walks while striking out four. He started on 3/10 at Virginia and surrendered three runs, two earned, on four hits with two strikeouts in 2.0 innings. Out of the bullpen, Tyler Morgan has a team-best 16 appearances and is third among relief arms with 21 strikeouts. Justin Walton (7.20 ERA) has made 15 appearances, and Trey Hanchey (2.87 ERA) and Seth Hockett (8.72 ERA) have made 12 appearances.
