FARMVILLE, Va. – Coming off an impressive 3-2 weekend record highlighted by a 6-4 victory over No. 15 Cal at the Texaco Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament,
Krista Kelly,
Karleigh Donovan and
Jessica Smith were each named to the All-Tournament Team.
Those three players combined for 17 hits throughout the week and nine RBI, as the Lancers had nine or more hits in three of the five games.
Kelly led the Lancers with a .412 performance, collecting hits in each of Longwood's five games. She added four RBI and a run scored, including a 2-for-4 day against No. 15 Cal with a pair of RBI that then gave Longwood a 6-3 lead. Defensively, from her spot in left field, Kelly made four putouts and had an assist.
Meanwhile, Donovan's sixth inning go-ahead RBI double led Longwood to a 6-4 win over No. 15 Cal Sunday afternoon. She finished the day 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI in the game, as she was one of three Lancers with a pair of hits. Donovan collected six hits across the five games Longwood played in the tournament, wrapping up the tournament batting .375 for the week, collecting three runs and three RBI in the five games.
Smith hit .267 for the weekend while playing the hot corner at third base. She added a pair of RBI and a pair of walks, as she's leading the team with a .362 average. Smith's best game of the week came in Longwood's win over East Carolina where she went 3-for-3 with two RBI.
Longwood (9-6) returns to the field Wednesday, March 7, as the Lancers open the Hawai'i Spring Fling Tournament against BYU at 6 p.m. ET.
