The Opening Tip
•   The Lancers return to Willett Hall Friday to host Stetson in a bid to extend their unbeaten home start to 6-0.
•   Longwood has outscored its first five home opponents by an average of 18.2 points per game. Four of those wins have come by double digits.
•   Longwood's 8-5 record is the best 13-game start of the program's 15-year Division I era. In the previous 11 seasons the Lancers won at least eight of their first 13 games, they finished above .500 in 10 of those.

•   Cornell caught fire from three-point range and never cooled off, hitting 16 three-pointers to take down Longwood 70-64 Thursday evening at Newman Arena.
•   The Big Red knocked down 16-of-32 treys to become only the fourth team to reach the 70-point threshold against Longwood, the Big South's top-ranked scoring defense.
•   The Ivy League's leading scorer Matt Morgan led that charge, scoring 17 points and hitting five three-pointers, while Jimmy Boeheim added 12 points and hit four threes.
•   Cornell built an 18-point lead midway through the second half, but Longwood rallied with a 15-2 run and cut the deficit to four points on a three-point play by

Griff Aldrich is among the winningest newly hired head coaches in Division I basketball this season, ranking 12th on that 55-member list with a .615 (8-5) winning percentage.
•   Of the 18 new head coaches who inherited teams that won single-digit games last year, only Aldrich and Pitt's Jeff Capel (8-3) have winning percentages above .500.
•   Longwood is 5-0 at home for the first time since the 1993-94 Lancers went a perfect 13-0 in Willett Hall en route to a final overall record of 23-6.
•   Longwood has grabbed 78.3 percent of rebounds on its own glass this season, the top mark in the Big South. Three of the top 15 defensive rebounders in the league are Lancers.
•   Point guard
Shabooty Phillips ranks third in the Big South with 5.4 defensive rebounds per game and is the second-leading rebounding guard in the Big South, trailing only Campbell's Chris Clemons.
•   Phillips has scored in double figures in six straight games while posting three 20-point games. He is averaging a team-high 19.5 points and 3.2 assists per game during that span.
•   Longwood has outrebounded 10 of its first 13 opponents and leads the Big South with a +5.5 rebounding margin.
•   In 26 halves this season, Longwood has allowed 40 points just three times. The Lancers have held the opposition to fewer than 30 points in a half nine times and fewer than 20 twice.

JaShaun Smith is also in pursuit of Longwood's all-time three-point shooting percentage record, currently sitting atop that list with a .381 (62-of-168) mark in his first three seasons.
•   Over his past five games,
Damarion Geter has amassed two double-doubles and averaged 9.4 rebounds, 7.0 points, 1.8 blocks and 1.8 steals. He has at least 10 rebounds in three of those games and 21.9 percent of Longwood's total rebounds.
Series History
•   Longwood and Stetson square off for the third time in series history and first time since they played each other twice during the 2007-08 season.
•   The Lancers and Hatters split those 2007-08 meetings with Longwood taking the first game 78-76 and Stetson winning the rematch 68-60.
•   Longwood's win came at home in Willett Hall, while Stetson's came on the road at the Edmunds Center in Deland, Fla.
