WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Led by Big South Player of the Year Lauren Proctor and Freshman of the Year Alisa Soloveva, top-seeded Winthrop pushed past the eighth-seeded Longwood women's tennis team 4-0 Friday morning in the Big South Championships quarterfinals from the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. Longwood's season isn't over as they have scheduled a late match for Friday night in Blacksburg, Va. against nationally-ranked Miami in a neutral site bout.

Winthrop's (18-5, 7-1 Big South) fifth seed Aida Kelic clinched the Eagles' 19^th consecutive Big South Championships semifinals appearance with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Longwood (7-14, 1-6 Big South) counterpart Mason Thomas, ending the match at 4-0.

A consistent Big South power over the past 20 seasons, Winthrop flexed their muscle with a doubles win and straight-set victories on singles courts one, two and five to advance.

The Lancers had won four of their previous five matches heading into Friday's action, including their second 4-3 comeback thriller over Radford in the First Round just 24 hours prior on Thursday. That 4-3 rally was also the Lancers' first Big South Championships victory since the 2013 season, their first as a member of the conference. The 2013 victory also came in 4-3 fashion over an eighth-seeded Runnin' Bulldogs squad.

The Eagles got on the board early as the tandems of Proctor/Megan Kauffman and Soloveva/Caitlin Cridland took 6-0, 6-2 decisions over their Lancer counterparts and a 1-0 lead.

Big South Freshman of the Year Soloveva pushed the Eagle lead to 2-0 with her 6-1, 6-0 win at court two over Lancer freshman Jamie Breunig before ace Proctor extended it to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Marija Venta.
