TOWSON, Md. – Towson used four singles sweeps and a three-set win at court No. 6 to take a 6-1 regional bout over the Longwood women's tennis team Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers got sweeps at courts one-through-four and a three-set win at the sixth slot to take down a Longwood team that was playing their third match in as many days.

In doubles competition, the Lancer duo of Paloma Alatorre and Marija Venta took court No. 2 in a convincing 6-0 decision, but the Tigers were able to take the 1-0 lead with wins at courts one and three by 6-3 scores.

Tuesday's match was the third-consecutive day the Lancers were able to pick up one win at the doubles courts and falling just short for the second and decisive win.

The tandem of Anna Pelak and Fallon Burger, who have been switching back-and-forth at the No. 5 and 6 slots all season, both forced a winner-take-all third set in their matches with Pelak taking hers by a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) comeback effort. Burger won the second set and forced a pivotal third, but fell just short by a 1-0 (10-5) decision.

Longwood opens another three-day stretch this weekend as Campbell, St. Mary's and Charleston Southern pays visits starting Friday, March 10. Match time for Friday is set for 10 a.m. as part of a double header with the men's squad against the Camels.
