Blue Hose Rally By Lancers 4-3

Lancers Take Doubles Point But Fall In Singles Play

FARMVILLE, Va. – After dropping two matches in doubles play and falling behind 1-0, Presbyterian used four singles victories to complete a 4-3 comeback effort against the Longwood women's tennis team Saturday morning from the Hampden-Sydney Tennis Courts.

The duos of Jamie Breunig/Fallon Burger and Mason Thomas/Anna Pelak gave Longwood (3-11) a 1-0 lead heading into singles play and only needing three wins to claim the match, but the Blue Hose came alive for the conference win and comeback.

Presbyterian's ace Tracy Johnson jumpstarted the rally with a 7-5, 6-1 win over her counterpart in Jamie Breunig, setting the tone for singles play. Saturday's match was the first back at the top of the rotation for Breunig after filling in at the two slot against Morgan State six days ago.

Senior Anna Pelak, who started the season flipping between five and six, took a straight-set 6-2, 6-4 win over her opposition in her first competition at court three this season. Pelak has won five of her past six matches in her journey up the rotation, while fellow senior Mason Thomas has won four-straight after a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 victory at court five, a role she primarily filled last season.

The doubles win Pelak and Thomas picked up was their ninth of the season, continuing their role as an anchor at the third line in doubles play.

The Blue Hose also picked up wins at courts two, four and six – to go along with the win by Johnson – to turn the match around and pick up their 11th win of the season and first in conference play.

Caroline Ferrari outlasted Longwood's Marija Venta 6-1, 7-5 at the second slot, Brittany Nuttall took a 6-4, 6-2 decision at six to snap Fallon Burger's three match win streak, and Demi Henschel was able to outlast Paloma Alatorre 6-2, 6-4, who was playing through a sprained ankle.

Longwood finishes the weekend in a nonconference clash with Commonwealth foe George Mason Sunday afternoon. Match time against the Patriots is set for 1 p.m.
