BUIES CREEK, N.C. – A game-opening 15-0 run over a span of five minutes, 37 seconds and fueled by 10 of Summer Price's game-high 21 points led Campbell to a 74-50 win over Longwood Saturday afternoon inside Gore Arena.
The game-opening run was part of a first quarter in which Campbell flexed its defensive muscle, using the NCAA's top-ranked scoring defense and holding the Lancers without a field goal on their first seven possessions of the game.
Price finished the game 9-of-16 from the floor while stuffing the stat sheet with three assists, a block and a steal in 31 minutes. She was one of three Camels to finish in double figures, as Bria Emmanuel secured her first double-double of the season with 15 points, 10 rebounds. Caroline Bowns scored 11 second-half points to become the third Camel to finish in double figures.
Longwood's
Eboni Gilliam matched Price bucket-for-bucket, finishing with a team-high 20 points and was nearly perfect from the field shooting at a 9-of-11 clip. The Richmond, Va., product also added an assist, block and a steal in 32 minutes in her team-leading 10th game in double figures.
The 20-point outing for Gilliam becomes her second in Longwood's last four games, as she becomes the first Lancer to post two 20-point outings on the season. Longwood's 6-0 forward has finished in double figures in four of Longwood's last seven games. With the performance, Gilliam nearly matched her 22 points from last season's contest at Gore Arena and has averaged 21.0 points per game in two career games in Buies Creek.
With the win, Campbell remains (16-5, 8-2 Big South) tied for first-place in the Big South with Radford, with the Highlanders holding the tiebreaker over the Camels. Meanwhile, Longwood (3-18, 0-10 Big South) drops its 10th straight game.
Khaila Hall logged her third game of the season with six-plus assists, as the Cleveland, N.C., product finished with a game-high seven assists to mark a career-high along with five points, two rebounds and a block. Hall's seven assists led to 15 Longwood points. Together, Longwood's backcourt duo of Hall and
Micaela Ellis have combined for eight games with at least six assists this season.
Longwood returns to action Tuesday with its second straight game in the Tar Heel State, as the Lancers travel to Gardner-Webb. The contest is set for an 11:15 a.m., tip inside Paul Porter Arena.
