Second Quarter Run Leads GWU Past Longwood

Autumn Childress Scores Team-High 13 Points in 89-55 Loss at Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – A 16-2 run throughout the final four minutes of the first half, along with four double figure scorers led Gardner-Webb to an 89-55 win Tuesday afternoon inside Paul Porter Arena.

Tierra Huntsman, the Big South's leading scorer averaging 15.3 points per game, neared a triple-double, as she finished with 10 points, seven assists and five rebounds in just 24 minutes. Coming into the game as one of two Runnin' Bulldogs to average in double figures, Huntsman recorded six of her season-high seven assists in the second half.
Huntsman finished in double figures for the 13th time on the season and for the seventh time in her last eight games.

The Runnin' Bulldogs run to close the half came during an opening half that featured four ties and two lead changes. The run came off 12 of the Runnin' Bulldogs 40 points in the paint and six points came off second-chance opportunities.

Alexus Hill joined Huntsman in double figures with a game-high 14 points, while Charlisa Jenkins (12) and Ky'Asia Stanford (11) also finished in double figures.

With the win, Gardner-Webb (10-12, 5-6 Big South) snaps a skid that saw the squad lose three of its last five games. Meanwhile, Longwood (3-19, 0-11 Big South) drops its 11th straight.

Autumn Childress led the Lancers with a team-high 13 points to mark her third game in double figures since returning from injury that cost her 11 games. Childress finished 4-of-8 from the field to go along with 1-of-2 from beyond the arc, while nearing a double-double with seven rebounds.

Ashlee Jones showed off her range with a career-high 11 points, including a 3-of-4 performance from three-point range. Micaela Ellis added 10 points to also finish in double figures, while adding a team-best three assists.

Longwood returns to Willett Hall Saturday, Feb. 11 to host Winthrop. The opening tip is set for 2 p.m., and will be part of a doubleheader along with the men's team.
