ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Big South preseason favorite Winthrop Eagles flexed their muscles for a 7-0 sweep over Longwood on Sunday, winning five of the singles matches in two sets.

Sophomore Fallon Burger forced a third set against Winthrop's No. 6 Alya Mourad, before falling 4-6, 6-0, 1-0.

Freshmen Jamie Breunig and Marija Venta served as the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds for the third consecutive match, both falling by scores of 6-2, 6-0.
 
Seniors Paloma Alatorre, Mason Thomas and Anna Pelak were lined up at the No. 3 through No. 5 seeds, falling in two sets – Alatorre by a score of 6-1, 6-0, Thomas had a pair of 6-1 scores and Pelak fell in straight 6-0 sets.
 
In doubles competition, the duo of Lauren Proctor and Megan Kauffman took down Burger and Venta at the one-line, 6-1. Breunig and Alatorre fell to Caitlin Cridland and Alisa Soloveva 6-1, and the pair of Thomas and Pelak sealed a 6-1 win for Lancers at the No. 3 slot.
 
Longwood stays on the road for a match at Commonwealth-foe Richmond on Friday. The match is set to start at 2:30 p.m.
