Late Run Pushes Camels Past Longwood, 72-65

Eboni Gilliam Finished With a Career-High 22 Points Along With Nine Boards

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – In a game that featured seven ties and nine lead changes, Campbell went on a 12-5 run over the final four minutes of the contest to earn a 72-65 victory over visiting Longwood in the Camels Play4Kay game Saturday afternoon inside Gore Arena.

The win for the Camels (9-14, 4-10 BSC) snaps a two-game losing skid and marks their second victory in their last five games. Meanwhile, Longwood (6-18, 3-12 BSC) drops its fourth straight contest, while the last three games have each been decided by nine points or less.

Campbell's Summer Price came off the bench to score 22 points, including 12 second-half points. She was one of four Camels to finish in double figures, as Jessica Pone tallied each of her 12 points on the day in the second-half, while RaeChaun Edwards (12) and Amanda Coffer (10) each finished in double figures.

For Longwood, junior college transfer Eboni Gilliam notched a career-high 22 points and finished one rebound shy of posting second double-double performance in the last three games. Senior Kyndal Skersick joined Gilliam in double figures with 16 points and a 4-of-7 performance from three-point range.

The 22 points from Gilliam matched the season-best individual performance of the season for Longwood, matching the 22 points that Autumn Childress scored against Notre Dame (Md.). In addition, the 22-point effort for Gilliam marks the second time in the last three games that she has scored 15-plus points while securing her 15th game of the season with six-plus boards.

Childress continued her recent run of success, leading all players with 10 rebounds. It marked the second time in as many games and the third time in the last four games that she finished with 10-plus boards.

A 16-point first-half from Gilliam gave the Lancers a six-point 34-28 cushion at the half. The 16 points from the Richmond, Va., product equaled the most points in a first half by a Longwood student-athlete this season, matching Childress' 16-point second-half against Notre Dame (Md.).

The Camels came out and tied the game less than two minutes into the second-half with a 6-0 run. From there, the two teams traded baskets with neither team holding more than a four-point lead until the game's final minutes.

Holding a four-point advantage with six minutes left, the Camels buckled down on the defensive end of the floor. Campbell held Longwood to just 2-for-9 shooting in that stretch. Meanwhile, Price had seven of her 12 second-half points in that final stretch, as the Camels went 7-for-8 from the foul line in the final minute.

Up next, Longwood returns to Willett Hall Tuesday, Feb. 16, as the Lancers host High Point at 7 p.m. The contest will mark the Lancers annual Pink Out game and will mark the first of five straight games to close the regular season in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
