Second Quarter Run Leads Charlotte Past Longwood

Senior Eboni Gilliam Notches Second Double-Double of the Season in 66-41 Loss

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Five double figure scorers and an 11-2 run over the opening five minutes, 52 seconds of the second quarter lifted Charlotte to a 66-41 win over visiting Longwood Sunday afternoon inside Halton Arena.

Four of Charlotte's five starters finished in double figures, as the quartet of Nylia Jamison-Myers (13), Laia Raventos (11), Lefty Webster (11) and Grace Hunter (12) combined for 47 of the 49ers 66 points. Hunter finished the afternoon with a double-double, scoring 12 points and adding 10 rebounds, while Jamison-Myers tallied a game-high 13 points and recorded three blocks to go along with a steal.

The double-double from Hunter negated the second double-double of the season from Longwood senior Eboni Gilliam. A product of Richmond, Va., Gilliam stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points and 12 rebounds, while adding a block in 35 minutes of playing time.

Over her last four games, Gilliam has scored in double figures three times and has averaged 9.75 points per contest to go along with eight rebounds.

The 11-2 run to open the second quarter helped Charlotte double its advantage from nine to 18 points, as the 49er defense held the Lancers to 3-of-16 shooting for the quarter. That effort helped the 49ers to their best defensive half of the season, holding the Lancers to .267 shooting and just 17 points.

The double-double from Hunter marked her second of the season and second in the last four games. In addition, the 13 points from the Raleigh, N.C., product marked her ninth game of the season in double figures.

Meanwhile, Kate Spradlin had a career-high nine points on 3-of-9 shooting, while bringing down two rebounds and coming up with four steals in 34 minutes. Sophomore Kemari Jones snapped a streak of three straight games in double figures, but finished with four points to go along with seven rebounds.

The win for Charlotte (7-3) marked their fourth straight and fifth in their last seven games. Meanwhile, Longwood drops its third straight to fall to 1-6 on the season.

Up next, the Lancers travel to West Virginia for a pair of games. Longwood will square off in a neutral site game against West Virginia Saturday, Dec. 17 in Charleston, W.Va., before facing Marshall Monday, Dec. 19.
