West Virginia Showcases Top-15 Talent vs. Lancers

Mountaineers Place Five Players in Double Figures in 107-40 Rout

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Behind a .714 shooting clip and a 62-point opening half, 14th-ranked West Virginia surged to a 107-40 win over Longwood in a neutral site game Saturday afternoon at the Charleston Civic Center.

West Virginia (11-0) opened the game on a 16-4 run over the opening three minutes, 29 seconds and eventually extended that lead to 31-8 by the end of the opening period. For the game, the Mountaineers hit .568 (42-of-74) of their field goals, a season-high mark against the Lancers.

West Virginia's frontcourt trio of Teana Muldrow, Lanay Montgomery and Kristina King combined for 47 points, including a 20-of-24 shooting performance from the field. Montgomery, the Mountaineers third leading scorer this season, finished with 19 points and added eight rebounds, three blocks and an assist in 17 minutes of action. In addition, Muldrow added 17 points and King finished with 11.

Meanwhile, West Virginia's guards pitched into the effort as well, helping the Mountaineers pour in 12 three-pointers on an afternoon that saw five different Mountaineers hit at least two treys. Tynice Martin poured in a game-high 21 points and made three treys while Alexis Brewer added 16 points.

For the Lancers (1-7), the freshmen trio of Khaila Hall, Jada Russell and Dayna Rouse scored a team-high eight points, as all nine players who saw action in the game found the scoring column. In addition, Kemari Jones brought down a game-high eight rebounds, marking her sixth game this season with five or more rebounds.

The 107 points allowed by the Lancers are the most of the season, marking the most the squad has given up since allowing 110 points last season against then-No. 8 and NCAA runner-up Oregon State.

Of the 42 made field goals by the Mountaineers, 32 were assisted which marked the most for West Virginia since the 1984 season. Katrina Pardee led the attack with 10 assists to go along with her six points, as she was one of three Mountaineers to register at least five assists.

Longwood will continue its road swing through the Mountain StateMonday, Dec. 19, as the Lancers travel to Huntington, W.Va., to face Marshall. That game is set for a 1 p.m., opening tip inside the Cam Henderson Center.
