FARMVILLE, Va. – A 19-point night from redshirt-junior guard Daeisha Brown, including 14 second-half points, helped Longwood pull away from visiting Winthrop in the fourth quarter and complete the season sweep with a 67-60 victory Tuesday night inside Willett Hall.

Brown, who came into the game needing 38 points to become the 21st member of Longwood's 1,000-point club, scored 14 of her team-high 19 points in the second half. The 19 points marked her third game of the season with 19-plus points and moved her within 19 points of becoming the third Lancer in the Division I era to hit the 1,000-point mark.

A product of Richmond, Va., Brown finished the night 5-of-12 from the floor, 1-of-1 from beyond the arc, while adding 8-of-9 free throws after coming into the game leading the conference with a .794 free-throw shooting percentage. The redshirt-junior added three assists, three rebounds and a steal in 27 minutes of action.

The 5-3 Brown took over the game in the middle of the fourth quarter, as the Lancers were trailing 52-51 with 6:03 remaining. She gave Longwood the lead – that it ultimately never relinquished the rest of the way – with a three-point play with 5:21 remaining on the game clock. After converting on that three-point play, Brown scored six of the next eight points for Longwood over the next two minutes of play to hand the Lancers a six-point cushion with 3:04 on the clock.

"It was nice to see Daeisha Brown play like the Daeisha Brown that we've grown accustomed to seeing," said Longwood head coach Bill Reinson.

After missing the final 27 games of last season, the surging Brown has come on of late for the Lancers, averaging 12.0 points per contest with two 19-point games among that stretch.

"I love the game of basketball, so when I tore my ACL last year it really devastated me," Brown said. "I knew that when I came back, I was going to come back with a purpose. That really motivates me every day."

Brown was one two Lancers to finish in double figures, as Longwood had a balanced scoring effort with six players scoring at least five points. Senior Kyndal Skersick added 10 points, including 2-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc, while Eboni Gilliam scored eight second-half points and Kemari Jones scored five points to go along with a team-high seven rebounds. In addition, Micaela Ellis tallied five points and added three assists – her 10th game of the season with at least three dimes – while Ashlee Jones added six points.

"Tonight was a great team win," Reinson said. "Even when shorthanded, Winthrop has two of the best players in the conference. I thought we struggled with our energy in the first half, but we were able to come back and play with more energy in the second half."

Gilliam, who came into the night eighth in the Big South in rebounding, brought down six-plus boards for the 14th time this season, as her and Kemari Jones aided Longwood to secure a 35-33 rebounding advantage with a combined 13 boards. In addition, Gilliam scored all eight of her points coming down the stretch in the game's final 7:30.

Longwood (6-14, 3-8 BSC) earned a season sweep over the Eagles (3-16, 2-8) for the first time since joining the Big South in 2012. The win for the Lancers snaps a five-game losing streak, while the Eagles fall after beating Campbell Saturday afternoon.

Winthrop junior and the Big South's leading scorer Erica Williams tallied a game-high 20 points on 9-of-16 shooting and added eight rebounds. In addition, Aliyah Kilpatrick added 14 points, while Naima Jackson scored 13 for the shorthanded Eagles, who played just seven players in the game.

Coming off a stretch of two games in three days, Longwood will have five days to prepare for Presbyterian. The Lancers and Blue Hose play Monday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. inside the Templeton Center in Clinton, S.C.
