Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – Longwood played one of its best defensive games of the year, not allowing a shot on goal through the 70 minutes of regulation. The Lancers couldn't notch a goal and in overtime, one play brought the blue and white crashing down.
Three minutes into the first overtime period, Georgetown's Sarah Butterfield broke away and walked in on
Lauren Bernard. The sophomore keeper couldn't make the stop and Georgetown pulled the rug from beneath the Lancers for the 1-0 victory.
Longwood (3-5,1-2) controlled the play much of the night, but the Lancers once again struggled to score. The blue and white tallied seven shots and put four on cage, yet they could not find a way past Georgetown's Rachel Skonecki.
Longwood now returns to Farmville for a two-game home stand beginning with Towson Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. The Lancers will follow with Vermont at noon on Saturday as part of a doubleheader with women's soccer playing at 7 p.m.
