FARMVILLE, Va. --
Libby Scott and Honami Yazawa picked up singles victories, and combined for a doubles victory to lead Coastal Carolina University to a 6-1 Big South Conference women's tennis victory at Longwood University on Wednesday in Farmville. Senior Sarah Moomau/Winchester picked up the lone point for the Lancers (3-8, 1-6 Big South) by winning her singles match, 6-1, 6-1, against the Chanticleers (15-3, 3-2 Big South). Longwood will return to action Sunday, April 6 at 1 p.m. as they will welcome Big South Conference opponent Charleston Southern University to Farmville.

"Today was about energy and intensity," said first-year Longwood head coach Casey Wharton.  "We had a good win yesterday against Norfolk, and we came out and gave it everything we had…and I very proud of our performance, despite the finishing score. Rome was not built in a day, and we know that it will not be overnight to beat the best teams in the conference, but I believe we will.  It is my goal, and the goal of everyone on our team, to become the best team in the conference.  And today, like many days before it, was a step in the right direction."

In singles play, Moomau defeated Dominique De Wit, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3, but junior Malin Allgurin/Värnamo, Sweden fell against Scott at No. 1, 6-4, 2-6 (7), and freshman Paloma Alatorre/Katy, Texas fell against Yazana, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2. Freshman Anna Pelak/McLean was defeated at No. 4 by Romane Delay, 6-0, 6-4, while freshman Mason Thomas/Buchanan Dam, Texas was defeated by Marie Babayan 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 and senior Bethany Law/Ona, West Virginia was defeated by Amanda Malatek at No. 5, 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles action, the duo of Allgurrin and Moomau were defeated by Scott and Yazana,8-3 at No. 1, while Pelak and Alatorre fell at No. 2 against De Witt and Delay, 8-5, and the combo of Thomas and Law were defeated at No. 3, 8-3.
